About Nerja
About Nerja (see map)
Nerja is a small town situated right on the Mediterranean coastline, in the south of Spain, in an area known as Andalucia.
The town centre is located around the Balcn de Europa (big red dot on map) this is a beautiful promenade and look out point to the sea. The church is also located here.
The main beach is Burriana beach (to the right of the map) but there are many small private coves to the east and west of the Balcn de Europa.
You can easily walk around the town as most of it is flat. It would take approximately half an hour to walk from one side of Nerja (Burriana beach) to the other side (El Playazo beach). As most of the town is located on the cliffs over the sea, the beach area around the town centre and Burriana beach is a downhill walk.
The main shopping streets are Pintada and Almirante Ferrndez (near the post office) and Diputacin, El Barrio and Castilla Perez (to the left of no. 8).
The market is every Tuesday from 8.30am to 2pm (no. 2). The main nightlife area is known as Plaza Tutti Frutti (below no. 1) this is full of bars, disco bars and nightclubs that open from 10pm until 6am.
There is a traditional flamenco bar called El Molino (on the San Jose street between Pintada and Almirante Ferrndez).
There are lots of great restaurants in the area - such as
Bella Roma, Italian (near the church),
Taste of India (on Carabeo street),
traditional Spanish Tapas bars such as La Marina, La Bodega and Casa Maria (in & around the square above number 1),
and also 2 new Tapas bar great value and food, one on the pintada street as you are going up on the right just up from miguels supermercado and the other on the post office street a bit up from the post office on the left.
The Old Cellar, Spanish (on Huertos street, near no. 23)
and for the best fish, paella and barbequed meats, go to Burriana Beach where there are lots of restaurants known as Chiringitos along the seafront.
Also on Burriana beach is the Camaleon restaurant (changes colour each night) great international menu best for steak! kiddies menu available, and fab homemade desserts incl. marsbar cheesecake!
